The Raleigh Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration is an opportunity to spread awareness and forge a sense of community purpose around the benefits of trees and environmental sustainability. Supporting a healthier natural environment leads to healthier and happier people!
Volunteers are encouraged to join We Plant it Forward staff and board members as we begin to plan for the 2026 Raleigh Earth Day and Arbor Day Celebration!
What you’ll do:
As a volunteer, you’ll attend weekly meetings with We Plant it Forward staff and board members.
Between meetings, volunteers will have the opportunity to sign up for tasks, all critical to planning the festival, including:
Planning environmental demonstrations
Developing a trivia game
Securing sponsorship
Assisting with impact measurements

What you’ll do:
Volunteers will help We Plant it Forward staff prepare for the tree giveaway, which includes putting up the tent, setting up the table, and laying out the materials.
After setting up, volunteers will run the tree giveaway, giving out free trees, and keeping inventory along the way.
Finally, at the end of the tree giveaway, volunteers will help take down the tent, table, and materials, and pack the car.

Tree Planting - Honeycutt Road Park
Join We Plant it Forward and help plant trees at Honeycutt Road Park!
Help We Plant it Forward reforest an open space by planting 400 tree seedlings at Honeycutt Road Park!
As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to raise awareness of the many benefits of trees, promote tree planting, grow our tree canopy, and create both a healthier environment and a happier community!
What you’ll do:
Volunteers will help We Plant it Forward staff plant bare-root tree seedlings using a high-density planting method (a lot of trees in a small space). Tools and gloves will be provided.

Help We Plant it Forward plant trees and reforest after an invasive species removal at White Deer Park Nature Center in Garner. We’ll be planting 100 tree seedlings!

What you’ll do:
Volunteers will help We Plant it Forward staff prepare the tree nursery, which is where we’ll be holding the tree seedlings intended for upcoming tree plantings and giveaways! Volunteer tasks will include activities such as potting and labeling the tree seedlings, as well as updating our inventory spreadsheet.

Native Tree Seed Collection-Private Group Volunteer Event
Tree Seed Processing - Activate Good Family Volunteer Day
Join We Plant it Forward and help lead our volunteers in processing tree seeds!
Help We Plant it Forward run our tree seed processing station at Activate Good Family Volunteer Day!
As a volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to raise awareness of the many benefits of trees, promote tree planting, grow our tree canopy, and create both a healthier environment and a happier community!
What you’ll do:
Volunteers will help We Plant it Forward staff prepare for the tree seed processing event, which includes setting up the station.
After setting up, volunteers will help guide others in processing native tree seeds to get them ready for planting. Once processed, the seeds will be donated to Project Pando, a local tree nursery, where they will be grown and given out for planting in our community!
Finally, at the end of the event, volunteers will help take down the station and pack the car.
There are 2 shifts available:
Morning shift: 8:45 AM – 11:45 AM
Afternoon shift: 12:15 PM – 2:45 PM

All seeds will be donated to a local tree nursery. After we finish collecting the native tree seeds, volunteers will also help prepare the seeds for planting at the nursery!

Trees for Wildlife™ Month
September is
Trees for Wildlife™ Month!
Observed annually throughout the month of September, the National Wildlife Federation’s Trees for Wildlife™ is a nationwide program that celebrates the importance of native trees by “providing free or subsidized native tree seedlings to partners across the country who plant them through local habitat restoration projects or distribute them at community tree giveaway events.”
