Maggie Bailey
Fundador y Director Ejecutivo
In 2009, Maggie launched an Environmental Service Program in Raleigh, NC that came to be known in 2012 as We Plant it Forward.
With the support of many volunteers, community partners and funders Maggie developed the We Plant it Forward programs you see today - nature centered education, tree planting, tree care, tree giveaways, tree seed collection, Raleigh Arbor Day Celebration and water conservation. She is excited about the plans to grow the organization and build the capacity to serve the community at a higher level.
Maggie is an ISA Certified Arborist. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and years of on the job environmental experience. Since 2009, she has led many tree planting, tree giveaway and seed collection volunteer efforts in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area and beyond, working with both adults and children. Using a hands-on learning curriculum, Project Learning Tree, Maggie has taught elementary age students the function of trees, benefits of trees, ecosystem, and proper tree planting. Her efforts have brought over 16,000 trees to the community of Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill, NC.

Lauren Hartman
President
Lauren ha pasado los últimos 20 años cultivando asociaciones transparentes y colaborativas para investigar y desarrollar medicamentos y tratamientos para enfermedades y afecciones graves y potencialmente mortales. Su carrera profesional en el ámbito de la garantía de calidad clínica y su pasión personal por los viajes han llevado a Lauren por todo el mundo y le han inculcado un profundo aprecio por la belleza y la fragilidad de la Tierra.
Lauren discovered We Plant it Forward when searching for opportunities to help protect the environment in meaningful and impactful ways. Volunteering with the organization to help collect tree seeds, organize Raleigh’s Arbor Day Festival, and plant trees to reestablish the dwindling tree canopy in her adopted hometown has given Lauren a way to put her energy into action.
Cuando no está cavando hoyos o sembrando, Lauren disfruta pasando tiempo con su marido Mark haciendo cualquier cosa al aire libre, cocinando y viajando a lugares cercanos y lejanos.
Melissa McCann
Vice President
Melissa McCann, ASLA, es diseñadora sénior en City Collective, especializada en diseño urbano, planificación, arquitectura paisajística y economía. Con más de 30 años de experiencia, integra diseño, sostenibilidad y desarrollo inmobiliario para crear entornos urbanos resilientes y de alto rendimiento.
Le apasiona la protección del medio ambiente y cree que un diseño bien pensado puede fomentar comunidades y ecosistemas más sanos. Además, está profundamente comprometida con las comunidades desfavorecidas, garantizando un acceso equitativo a espacios públicos de calidad e infraestructuras sostenibles.
She is motivated to serve on the We Plant it Forward board to support reforestation efforts and community engagement in tree planting as a powerful tool for environmental restoration and climate resilience.

Megan Bowles

Megan Bowles is a native North Carolinian and long-time Raleigh resident whose professional journey is deeply rooted in cultivating environments where both people and nature can flourish. With a foundation from the NCSU College of Design and a career that spans transformative leadership roles—from pioneering work at LS3P to spearheading innovative strategies with Lucy Hawk—Megan haslong championed the idea that true leadership is about nurturing spaces that empower others to thrive.
Now, as she joins the board of We Plant it Forward, Megan brings her signature people-centered leadership to a cause close to her heart: preserving and restoring our natural environment for future generations. Her dedication to environmental stewardship is reflected not only in her professional achievements but also in her personal commitment to sustainable living. Megan transforms her own little square of the world by cultivating her backyard and front yard with native plants and flowers, inviting pollinators and wildlife to flourish—a living testament to her belief that we all have a role in healing and nurturing our land.

McClain es el director de viveros del Servicio Forestal de Carolina del Norte en Clairidge State Nursery. El vivero Clairidge planta, cultiva, vende y distribuye su cosecha anual de plántulas a propietarios y residentes de Carolina del Norte con fines de reforestación y forestación. McClain lleva 18 años trabajando en el sector forestal. Su experiencia abarca desde el cultivo de productos agrícolas y la cría de ganado en la granja de su familia hasta la investigación y el desarrollo de plántulas con el Programa de Mejora de Árboles del NCFS, pasando por el cultivo y cuidado de 16 millones de plántulas de pino y frondosas al año en el Vivero Claridge.

El Dr. Bardon es Decano Asociado de Extensión y Profesor de Silvicultura en el Departamento de Silvicultura y Recursos Medioambientales de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte. Robert es silvicultor colegiado de Carolina del Norte y entre sus especialidades figuran la comercialización y gestión forestal, el desarrollo económico y el uso compatible del suelo. También tiene experiencia en silvicultura urbana. En su calidad de asesor de We Plant it Forward, consultaremos al Dr. Bardon sobre cuestiones forestales tanto tradicionales como urbanas.

La Dra. Bradley es Jefa Adjunta de Departamento y Jefa de Extensión del Departamento de Ciencias Hortícolas de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte. Dirige el programa de Horticultura de Consumo y Comunitaria, que incluye horticultura de consumo, jardinería comunitaria, horticultura terapéutica y el programa de Voluntarios Maestros Jardineros de Extensión. En su calidad de asesora de We Plant it Forward, la Dra. El Dr. Fair es especialista en paisajismo, arboricultura y jardinería urbana y profesor asociado del Departamento de Ciencias Hortícolas de la Universidad Estatal de Carolina del Norte. Arboricultora titulada, la Dra. Fair es experta en identificación y selección de plantas leñosas, mantenimiento y plantación. Su investigación se centra en el uso del suelo y el agua en el paisaje. Como asesora de We Plant it Forward, consultaremos a la Dra. Fair sobre cuestiones relacionadas con el suelo, el agua y la silvicultura.

No matter your age (12+) or skill level, there’s a place for you in our volunteer community! Volunteers are instrumental to our team, helping us reach our goals to preserve and restore the natural environment.
